The Grand Lodge of Masons of Maryland opened its semi annual communication in Baltimore with Grand Master Thomas J. Shryock presiding. Attendance from county lodges was large and the grand master’s address reported the fraternity in prosperous condition with record grand lodge fees and a twenty percent rise in receipts from the last term. The session was brief with a recess taken tonight. Also noted were Canal receivers Col Johnson Bridges and Baker visiting Baltimore to assess potential canal operation and coal business prospects in New York. The Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle met at Mrs Nicodemus’s home and will next meet at Mrs Reefer’s on May 20. An election for twelve directors of the Improvement Land and Building Association will be held this evening at Md Mutual Insurance Co. offices.
