Officers Of CAP Chosen At Meeting
First steps toward reactivation of Civil Air Patrol in Frederick county were taken Thursday evening with 40 adults and several teenagers at a public meeting in the Delaplaine building. Bruce Brachey will be commanding officer, John Patton executive officer, Herschell Gibbs operations and training officer, and Miss Jean Grimes adjutant in charge of paperwork. Training will cover engines, operation, navigation, meteorology, radio, and first aid with Red Cross involvement. Regular meetings will be at the Delaplaine building. May 22 an L-4 will visit Frederick for training, with two surplus Stearman planes from Buck Field, Ga., expected for permanent assignment.

The prosecution introduced a statement allegedly made by Herman P. Dennis Jr. claiming he raped Ruth Farnsworth three times after she was beaten unconscious. Dennis testified himself before the statement was admitted at his murder trial. An Air Force Court-Martial admitted the confession after a lengthy argument. The account identifies Sar. Robert W. Arrest Mrs Eisler as Husband Sought in Flight Case
Washington May 13 Mrs Gearhart Eisler was re arrested for deportation as the Justice Department planned to bring her husband back from abroad. She was detained in New York City on charges of illegal entry, with officials aiming to question her about Elster a 52 year old admitted Communist who was a stowaway on a Polish vessel. Immigration officials on Ellis Island were instructed to detain her.

Sailor Hurt As Tandem Bikes Upset Near High Knob
A 24 year old sailor, Walton H. Wilson of Camp Detrick, remained semi conscious after a tandem bicycle crash at the foot of High Knob last Saturday. An operation to relieve intracranial pressure was performed at Naval Hospital Bethesda. Raymond Hawkins, also from Camp Detrick, and two girls Miss Phyllis Cooke and Miss Gladys Goodsell were injured. Cooke was discharged after treatment while Goodsell and Hawkins were treated at Frederick Memorial Hospital. Wilson and Goodsell were thrown into a field after brakes failed on the curve. Wilson was moved to naval hospital later that night.

John Nelson Clary a longtime Frederick insurance agent died at Frederick Memorial Hospital at 9 this morning after two weeks as a patient. He was 81 and had fractured a hip in a fall. Middletown racer John Crone suffered a broken wrist and finger lacerations and shock when his car broke an axle during a Winchester race. His car struck two spectators, who survived with injuries, and Crone will miss the Indianapolis Classic but aims to race again by mid to late June. Bill To Boost Pay Of Armed Services Goes To Committee
Washington May bill to raise the nation’s military payroll about 406 million dollars a year was ready for approval by the House Armed Services committee. No Damage From Quake Across Los Angeles Valley
An early quake startled residents in Los Angeles and the San Gabriel and San Fernando valleys but caused no damage. Fumes From Truck Fire Freeze Holland Tunnel Traffic
May 13 New York. A truck fire exploded drums of carbon disulphide in the Holland Tunnel trapping about 30 people including 20 firemen. Cables of AT and T and New York Telephone were affected delaying westbound traffic up to three hours. Fire crews fought the blaze amid ammonia fumes as trapped motorists fled to tunnel exits.
