Zoning Case Heard by Frederick County Appeals Board

The Appeals Board approved Guy F. Gladhill’s plan to expand his Middletown antiqu e shop behind the store with a 12 by 2 foot concrete block storage room. The interim ordinance had expired, but the new Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance allowed the expansion as a conditional use in the agricultural district. Gladhill, a longtime furniture and restaurant businessman, argued the expansion fits liberal zoning rules and was supported by county planner Hatton. The lame duck board, extended by commissioners, approved the application citing no opposition and alignment with the new ordinance.
