Attorney General Hall Hammond advised City Attorney Richard Zimmerman that municipal elections are not governed by the Ober act requiring loyalty affidavits. He noted Chapter 86 of the 1949 Acts specifies a candidate certificate for Article 33 elections, implying no such oath is needed for city races.
The body of a man killed by a train at Harpers Ferry West Virginia about ten days ago will be buried in Park Heights cemetery Brunswick at 2 pm Sunday. Authorities could not identify him and the Anatomy Board in Baltimore refused the body as embalmed. Several viewers at Feete funeral home in Brunswick thought they recognized him but no confirmation. A brother of the alleged “pal” was to come but nothing more was heard. Frederick officials had warned about Anatomy Search act. only one body has been sent to Baltimore, a Frederick County man whose relatives declined burial expenses.
The County Cancer Drive seemed assured with reported contributions of 4278168 dollars. The drive closed April 31 about 1500 short of the goal. committees and individuals continued giving, and city and county groups planned year end activities to donate proceeds to the local committee.
Fire in Blaine West Virginia destroyed a large two story frame building owned by Hugh Strachan of Cumberland Maryland. The building housed a beer parlor and club run by the Improved Order of Red Men and stored Hamill Coal Company goods. Loss estimated at ten thousand dollars for the building and six thousand for contents, with Oakland and Kitzmiller fire crews assisting.

Key figures include Department Commander Frank J. Davis and Adjutant Paul P. Zavitsky with National Commander David M. Brown expected to attend. Local hosts Washington and Lee Chapter of Frederick and city officials will run sessions with an initiation by the Trench Rats to entertain and greet delegates.
State highway oiling starts Monday morning across nearly six miles in the county. Route 77 from Rocky Ridge to Thurmont will be resealed 1.2 miles starting Monday. Route 72 work follows late Tuesday or Wednesday. A 4.54 mile section from Lewistown to Creagers Town and 0.25 mile approach work at Catocin Creek bridge on Route 17 are planned with no traffic interruptions.
Baltimore May 12 State's Attorney J Bernard Wells said his office is investigating a shortage in magistrates fines collected by the State Division of Parole and Probation. He ordered City Auditor Howard C Beck to audit the parole division's books and report. Benson, parole director, said he was not aware of the amount.
City engineer W Raymond Waller announced parts of the traffic light equipment have arrived for the Fourth and Bentz street intersection. Remaining gear is expected this month and the lights will be installed soon, improving safety at the busy crossroads.
Washington May 12 Eugene Dennis a top Communist leader was ordered to begin a one year prison term for contempt of Congress. Federal Judge David A Pine directed immediate incarceration though Dennis sought a delay until June 22. Appeals court in New York is set to hear his case with ten others convicted of conspiring to advocate overthrow of the government.
An abandoned Plymouth sedan found near Mountain Rock along the Potomac is investigated for links to the slaying of an unidentified red haired woman whose nude, strangled body was recovered upriver. The car yielded rope and hair, with a dress found nearby and a hem a hitchhiker named Betty Lou from Akron, Ohio, may be connected per witness P C Yost.
Calvin Harold Ziegler an eighteen year old colored resident of Fountain Mills walked into City Police headquarters about midnight Wednesday and admitted breaking into the summer home of retired Washington businessman Deputy Sheriff George F. Crouse said today. He will be charged with breaking and entering and larceny. Bond not set. A report reached the Sheriff's office on Monday from J. C. Lumbard.
Articles of Incorporation filed with the State Tax Commission by Ballenger Sales and Service Inc to deal in automobiles and accessories. Capital stock is 200 shares with a par value of 100 dollars each. Incorporators are John H. Krantz Lloyd R Stup and Richard E Zimmerman all of Frederick.

Vernon W. Nicodemus a Frederick county resident died at his Monrovia home at age 72 after seven months illness. He owned a grain elevator since 1902 and earlier served as postmaster. Active in New Market Methodist church and several fraternal orders. funeral Monday at 11 o'clock from his home with interment at Mt. Olivet cemetery.

City Engineer W Raymond Walter shows damaged Market and Fourth street sign while noting new steel porcelain enamel signs are being installed to remain legible and resist vandalism. Four gunmen wearing gas masks robbed three Brink's guards at the Digelow-Sanford carpet factory in Thompsonville, taking $15,000 of 300 workers payroll. Guards were beaten and hospitalized. robbers fled by car as police searched the plant for hours. No immediate connection to the January Boston Brinks heist or Wilkes Barre alarm incident.
