Bethesda Residents Lose Bid On Five Lane Road Plan
Bethesda residents lost their battle to block a $2.9 million one block extension of Woodmont Avenue running parallel to Wisconsin Avenue from Bethesda Avenue to Leland Street. Citizens warned the by pass would erode residential character and hurt property values, while business leaders argued the project boosts tax revenue and regional viability. The 15 year master plan rationale and future extension toward Bradley Boulevard fueled the debate, with council members split on immediate construction versus long term impact.
