May 11 New York. John D Rockefeller and his party were caught in an inrush of people aboard the steamship Kaiser Wilhelm. They were pushed and pulled along the pier until landing on the deck, struggling for breath as the dense crowd surged around them. The Delay aboard the ship near the quay sparked the crush and the scramble among visitors attempting to exit the liner.
London May 11 A royal procession with a large civic and military display will accompany the removal of King Edward VII from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall. The event will feature a formal memorial service and a state pageant, with representatives from Britain and allied nations attending. The Queen Mother Alexandra expressed gratitude for the nation’s sympathy in a letter, as mourners including foreign royals are expected.
Kaiser Wilhelm hosts a formal reception at the palace with distinguished guests and high officials in attendance. The event showcases royal pageantry, with diplomats present and a display of traditional ceremonies.
Charles C. Crawford, a 38 year old butcher from Tinton Falls, was killed when a wagon hit a bag of cement spooking the team and crushing his head. A widow and three children survive him. He died instantly after the accident near Colt's Neck on May 11. Crawford had been injured earlier in a separate runaway incident where his leg was fractured and later amputated.
