Assateague Seashore Plan Moves Ahead in Committee
Sen. Alan Bible said he will introduce legislation to establish Assateague Island as a national seashore. A Senate subcommittee will survey alternatives including nearby islands as potential park sites. The group will travel via Delaware River, then Wallop’s Island, Parramore Island and Cape Lookout before considering federal park status. The Maryland court decision on private water and sewer permits will not halt committee plans. If designated, federal funding would exclude improvements made after Jan 1, 1963.
