Section Of Old 240 To Be Dualized

Dualization of a stretch of old U S 240 between Frederick city limits and Evergreen Point is included in the M J Grove Lime Company contract for the Frederick by pass east south leg. The plan covers Evergreen Point to the bridges over the by pass and 600 feet north of them. A 500 foot section near the hollow south of Mt Olivet cemetery will be narrowed to a single lane. The dualized area will have two 24 foot travelways a 16 foot median and 10 foot shoulders totaling about 84 feet. The proposal would not expand to a parkway as suggested by Rush Lewis who offered land and $2000 for beautification if the hollow was raised and the road widened to 250 feet. City Engineer W Raymond Walter said highway widening is a state responsibility and not needed to 256 feet within the city.
