House Passes Bill Which Faces Veto
The House approved an average pay raise of 8.8 percent for postal workers despite a presidential veto risk. The bill would cost about 174 million dollars per year for 500,000 workers, and Summerfield warned it creates pay distortions and inequities. The Senate was to take up the measure Wednesday as President Eisenhower signaled opposition to raises beyond 7.6 percent.
