Sideling Hill Mountain Route 40 Project Complete
Large Western Maryland road project on Route 40 west of Hancork finished by M J Grove Lime Co. The seven mile Sideling Hill relocation opened in sections from bottom to top since August 1950, at about 2.5 million dollars. The new route trims curves, lowers grades to around 6 percent, adds about a mile of easy ascent, and features a 150 foot bridge over Sideling Hill Creek to reduce flood stoppages. Final work includes rails and gutters as authorities plan acceptance by early July.

A 22 year old Pennsylvania motorist, Joseph A. Samariga of Coledale, posted a 1645 bond on reckless driving charges after his 191 Ford north on South Bentz street went the wrong way on a one way. A six weeks old girl, Doris Jean Bowers, died in her family's home at 114 South Water Street after being found resting in bed with her parents and a sister. The medical examiner ruled accidental. Car Plunges Onto Tracks After Train Collision

Robbers loot Seneca summer homes in early week

Young Soldier Bonds For Trial After Assault
Lawrence D Davis a 23 year old soldier stationed at Camp Detrick posted 3000 bond early this morning after being charged with assault and battery. Police say he rode north on South Market street in a car saw Mr and Mrs Harry O Gosnell insulted them got out and attacked Gosnell with a screwdriver causing a forehead gash. Gosnell received treatment at Memorial Hospital and was not severely injured. Ralph L Potts and Officer Harlan DeGrange arrested Davis.
