Opossum Births Five Weigh In On Evergreen Point Scene
A photo by Nicholas Yinger at West Patrick Street shows a full grown opossum that has just given birth to five young ones tucked in its external pouch. Nearby notes compare the species’ bivonical trait to the kangaroo, platypus, shrew, and tree sloth, in a rural Maryland setting south of Evergreen Point on U 240A. Neighboring Betson family remodelling a four room log cabin near Frederick saw a fatal house fire after a fishing trip. Fire crews found the interior gutted and blamed an oil stove defect. Betson suspects insurance will not cover much of the loss. An entomologist offers boxelder bug control methods, recommending either spraying with chlordane DDT or removing female box elder trees to curb future infestations near homes. The bugs, nuisance insects that stain walls or furniture, feed on female box elder trees introduced to Maryland from the Midwest.

Do Boxelder Bugs Bother You Last Fall
College Park May 9 entomologists report many Maryland residents asked if boxelder bugs bothered them last fall or winter. Homeowners described thousands of bugs gathering on foundations and entering homes through gaps. Experts explain these bugs breed on female boxelder maple trees and overwinter in buildings or natural hideways after leaf drop.
