Post Office Urges Farmers to Shield Mailboxes from Thieves
The Post Office Department, urged by Fourth Assistant Postmaster General PL V DeGraw, recommends rural customers install neat posts with mounted mailboxes painted white and numbers in black five inches high. Boxes should bear town route directions painted on nearby crossroads posts, not on the posts themselves, to aid theft prevention and quick location of patrons along rural routes.

Rural post boxes to be mounted on protective arms
General DeGraw urges that rural post boxes be attached to sturdy wood or Lund iron brackets to deter marauders and ease navigation for strangers. Authorities emphasize visible owner payments and town directions, with rural routes approaching city standards for house plates and lamp post signs. Farmers should plan feed for livestock, noting oats and peas store under warn weather and cows consuming 50 to 80 pounds daily. A practical feed plan includes green fodder, hay, and a grain mix of bran and middlings with gluten feed, while avoiding laxative overfeeding.

Oats and Canada Peas as Best Green Crop After Clover
Massachusetts station expert J HB Lindsey says oats and Canada peas form the best green crop after clover for stummer soil. Recommend three sowings beginning early spring and timing with harrowed land. Use one and one half bushels per acre of oats and peas, sown together or separately, to be harvested by late June with haying timing noted.
