New York staged a belated homecoming for about 25,000 Vietnam veterans with a ticker tape parade that drew up to a million spectators. Gen. William Westmoreland led the head of the march with 26 Medal of Honor recipients, while Mayor Koch and disabled veteran Assemblyman John Behan joined the salute. The city honored veterans amid confetti, banners, and cheers across Brooklyn Bridge to Battery Park.
