Local court hands down varying sentences for bad checks
District Court Judge Stanley Y. Bennett imposed differing penalties on two men admitting to passing worthless checks. Walter G. Sewell, 21, West Sixth Street, received a $50 fine and court costs with payment deferred. Michael J. Gildea, 29, Sykesville, got probation before judgment to allow restitution after admitting to a $46.75 check written when his account was closed. Several other cases included liquor for juveniles, compulsory education, and shoplifting, with various pleas, dismissals, and presentencing investigations noted.
