A construction firm led by M. J. Bles Construction requests a permit from the U S Army Corps of Engineers to dredge sand and gravel from the Potomac River near the U S 15 bridge, storing material on Virginia shoreline property leased by Bles. The project runs from the bridge area to near Little Catoctin Creek, with public action set for June 5.
Bedford hosts two day spring meeting of the Interstate Commission on the Potomac Basin with 160 delegates from member states and the District of Columbia. Topics include mine drainage acid pollution water supply and flood control as discussions address abatement and control measures for waterways.
