Change In Taft Hartley Law Shelved In Senate
Washington May 7 The Senate blocked a major part of Eisenhower's labor reform program by voting to recommit the Taft Hartley revision to the Senate Labor Committee. Northern and Southern Democrats united to oppose the bill arguing it fails to curb union power and gives states limited control over strikes. AFL CIO leaders welcomed the move while some Republicans defended the measure as a start, with Senator Hill urging the Senate not to surrender its power to the executive.

Grand Jury to Get Report on Sheriff in Maryland county
HAGERSTOWN May 7 Washington County State's Attorney John Hollyday said he would present to the grand jury a private detective agency report on the county sheriff's office. The American Bureau of Investigation report, compiled over two months, concerns Deputy Sheriff Michael Farrie and Sheriff Edward Rowland, who are both candidates. The grand jury convenes next Monday. The probe followed claims Farrie used a county gasoline card for a Florida honeymoon, with expenses disputed as reimburseable from personal funds.
