Frederick County students undergo broad testing program

Frederick County schools administer many tests from kindergarten through 12th grade to gauge readiness and achievement. Tests include MSTOI Myklebust and IOWA now California, with state required Maryland Functional Reading and Math. Project Basic may add four more graduation tests in years ahead.

Free cancer detection clinics for women announced

Free cancer detection clinics for women will be held at the Carroll County Health Department on Tuesday afternoon May 13 and Monday evening May 19. The program focuses on Pap tests for cervical cancer and breast cancer self examination education. Appointments can be made by calling 657-5000, 876-2152, or 875-3390.

Kemptown survey set for park development

The Frederick County Parks and Recreation Commission and the Kemp town Community Park Advisory Committee are conducting a citizen survey for the Community Park master plan. The park lies off Kemptown Church Road near the elementary school under construction. Residents in Urbana Green Valley Kemptown Monrovia and nearby areas are asked to respond via the local newspaper survey or contact the county office at 64-1646.

Male counselors sought for Camp Greentop program

Male counselors are needed this summer at Camp Greentop in the Catoctin Mountains Western Maryland run by the League for the Handicapped. Applicants must be 18 or older with some child experience. The camp runs June 27 to August 4 with extra two weeks if fluent in sign language. Compensation includes $55 weekly plus room and meals.
