The Knights Templar observed Ascension Day with a church service at a temple lodge, led by Sir Knights and clergy. Rev Dr Hess delivered remarks on the order’s history of liberty and conscience, stressing that faith and freedom remain central to Templar ideals.
The service included benediction and a Soldiers Chorus, followed by a Walkersville WoCU procession. The Walnersville WoCU met at Mrs Mildred Otte’s home to support Flower Mission and relief work with reports, readings, and prayers. Delegates to county conven tion were appointed, and the June meeting planned for publicity efforts.

Los Angeles May 6 James Kirkwood silent film idol linked to a revived inquiry into the 1917 murder of director William Desmond Taylor. District Attorney Baron Fitts said the first witness before the county grand jury was Mrs Muar Fillmore sister of Taylor’s former sweetheart Mary Munter, who testified about a rumored romance and a claimed marriage ceremony between Kirkwood and Munter.
Louis Levin of Washington files an answer in Equity Court stating he will not contest the suit for annulment filed by his wife Margaret Harrison Levin. A petition to take testimony has been granted. Mrs Levin alleges fraud induced the marriage at about 1 o clock at night and asks the ceremony be declared null and void with resumption of her maiden status. Rov Dr B OW Meeks is named as the officiating minister from last January.
A deed filed in the clerk’s office records the sale of a lot on Mote ter avenue, the Bentz street extension, to the Chesapeake Conference Association, Seventh Day Adventists. The sale by Mr and Mrs Charley Ho Kehne totals about $1,000. church construction plans remain undetermined.
