Maryland seeks public input on draft law for vulnerable research
Maryland Attorney General J Joseph Curran Jr invites comments on a proposed statute to govern research involving decisionally incapacitated individuals such as Alzheimer's patients. The plan would use patient chosen agents and family surrogates for consent in minimal risk studies, with stricter limits as risk rises and an Institutional Review Board to assess merit and safety. Public copies and conference details are provided by the AG office, with a May 28 discussion at the University of Maryland School of Law. The report also notes Savannah College of Art and Design winter dean's list recipients Laura Hubbard and Rory Purdum.
