Backstage Circus Legend Paul Horempo Tames Tiger at 1938 Garden Fight
HAL BOYLE reports from Madison Square Garden on Paul Horempo, a 59 year old miniature clown with Ringling Bros. who knocked out a tiger in 1938. The tale, a tanbark legend, recalls the clash, Horempo’s chivalry, and how ASPCA monitors guard animal welfare with Raymond Mulligan praising the circus’s cooperation and Harry, the elephant herding horse, keeping peace among elephants for 25 years.
