Frederick board approves boundary changes amid middle school shifts

The Frederick County school board approved five boundary changes after discussions with communities and staff. Key actions include retaining sixth graders at New Midway and Woodsboro, reallocating Beaver Dam Johnsville students to Walkersville, moving Elm Street students to junior high status, funding Middletown additions, and adding portable capacity at Brunswick.

Fire destroys historic barn at Fair Hill Farm in Olney

For the second time this week a historic building on Sandy Spring Road burned, a two story barn with an 1895 cornerstone was engulfed as investigators labeled the fire arson. The Fire Marshal noted probable arson with up to 30 years possible in prison.

Frederick County Board Approves Revised School Construction Budget

Frederick County Board of Education trimmed the 3.38 million request to 2.58 million for FY 1978 and sent it to the county for advance funding. The panel cited a newspaper report on prior staff reductions and insisted on urgent funding to meet housing and education needs. The vote to seek 2.58 million advance funding passed 4-0 with two members absent.

Firm awarded Phase 1 bid for Frederick High School

The Board of Education approved Cam Construction of Cockeysville as Phase 1 contractor for Frederick High School. The low bid of 5.06 million beat Donahoe by 15 thousand, with additional costs for roof and oil tank work. Rainfall Drenches area farms as temperatures vary widely

Area farmers welcomed rain from Wednesday as a relief after dry weather. Dolphin Frushour logged .3 inch at 7:20 pm in Wolfsville with a 54 degree high, while Emmitsburg saw 2 inch with 48 to 70 degree swings. Damascus reported 1.6 inches and winds to 16 mph with 68/34 degree readings. Frederick City had .11 inch and 55 to 77 degrees. Feagaville recorded .09 inch by 6:30 pm with 53 to 57 degrees, plus .03 inch on both Monday and Tuesday.
