Eisenhower proposes defense reorg to cut Joint Chiefs power
President Eisenhower sent a plan to Congress outlining a major Defense Department reorganization. It would abolish the Munitions Board, the Research and Development Board, and the Defense Supply Management Agency, with their duties shifted to six new assistant secretaries. The Joint Chiefs of Staff would lose some authority as power is reallocated to strengthen civilian control and improve efficiency amid a perilous global scene.

Jump In Maryland Crime Tops Nation
FBI notes a 43 percent rise in Maryland crime in 1952, the largest jump in the nation, attributed largely to new reporting systems. Baltimore cites a June 1952 overhaul that sent nearly all offenses into central records, affecting the totals. Despite gains in 1952 for murder, rape, robbery, and burglary, overall crime classifications show mixed changes from 1951.
