Fire devastates city watershed in weekend blaze
A fast moving forest fire swept the city watershed starting Sunday, burning about 2,500 acres including timber. Firefighters from Frederick, Lewistown, Catoctin Furnace and others fought the flames with 75 new workers. Visible from Frederick and surrounding towns, the blaze threatened fishing camps and remained hard to control with risk of spread toward Furnace Hollow road. No loss of life reported.
