Matua prairie grass a new forage option with caveats
Matua bromegrass is promoted as a perennial forage fit for hay and pasture. Experts warn of powdery mildew outbreaks in Pennsylvania and West Virginia, high management demands, poor fall/winter stockpiling, and variable winter survival. The crop yields late, tolerates high nitrogen needs, and should be allowed to seed before grazing to establish stands.
