Proposed Washington Aged Care Plan for Low Income

The administration proposes a medical care plan for the low income aged with $22 yearly premium. Married couples earning over $3,800 or singles earning over $2,500 would be ineligible. Secretary Flemming says about 12 million seniors could be helped to ease long term illness costs. States would design local programs, possibly via private insurers or state run plans, with costs split 50-50 between federal and state governments. The 1961-62 cost is around $400 million, rising to an ultimate annual $1.2 billion if all states participate and 80 percent of eligibles enroll.
