Canal project gains support from Frederick Isaak Walton League
Frederick chapter of the Isaak Walton League backs extending the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal recreational project from Point of Rocks to Harpers Ferry West Virginia. A committee led by Leslie W. Grove Jr. and including William G. Keogte and Samuel Gardner Jr. will cooperate with the Washington chapter. DeWitt Harry outlined financing from FWA funds and described plans to provide boating, fishing facilities, shrubbery and flowers along the canal, from Seneca Creek to Point of Rocks. Edward James of the U S Bureau of Fisheries discussed fish ladders and the Monocacy survey, noting stocking decisions to balance forage and home fish. The Brunswick chapter was also initiated, and pollution efforts on Carroll Creek were reported. The vermin-killing drive ended with the Blue team defeating the Reds. next meeting is June 7 at Hotel Frederick with a budget supper.

Elmer Harding aged 49 died in two Baltimore area hospitals from injuries after being run down on a road near his home in Howard County near Sykesville. Gerald E. Lyons of Eldersburg drove the car. Harding was unmarried, worked on the family farm, and is survived by his mother and three brothers.

Charles Town Bank to pay a 53 percent first dividend to depositors of the closed Farmers Bank and Trust Company of Charles Town.
