Liquor Price Measure Faces Possible Veto in Maryland
Governor Tawes signaled likely veto of a bill to fix minimum whisky prices, after a two hour public hearing in Annapolis. He cited strong opposition from package stores and labor groups, and noted past constitutional concerns triggering a 1959 veto. The measure would require distillers to post quarterly minimum prices with the state comptroller, exempting counties with dispensaries.
