Rate Boost Is Approved By Public Service Commission
The Public Service Commission approved Potomac Electric Power Co. to raise Maryland rates in Prince George’s and Montgomery counties. The 3.4 percent increase, effective with May 6 meter readings, adds about 933,731 dollars annually and covers urban and suburban residential, commercial and street light charges. Rockville will pay 25 percent more for street lights, urban residential rates rise 5.27 percent, and urban first 40 kWh climb from 4.25 to 4.50 cents.

Slidlington Valley Grange set May 26 for sewing and cake contests. Adults over 21 sew cotton kitchen curtains. girls under 21 sew cotton duster and homestead markers. Children 10 to 14 make cotton squaw skirts and bird houses. 5 to 9 make cotton stuffed toys and bird feeders. Butter sheetcakes featured for all ages. Friendship Night with Thurmont Grange planned. Frederick County Pomona Grange meets Saturday at Jefferson with flower arrangement contest in three classes. Youth Committee led program with singing and ventriloquist act.
