Smith supporters claim victory at Democratic convention
San Francisco May 2 A stasinas victory by Gov A L Smith of New York in the Democratic presidential primary over Senator James Reed and Senator Thomas Walsh prompted Smith supporters to hail success at Houston. In 8950 precincts counted Smith led Reed and Walsh with 132 006 to 47 550 and 7 etc. Wilbur Legette state campaign manager for Heal proposed a bolt if Smith is nominated, asking Josephus Daniels Secretary of the Navy to join a ticket with Reed or Borah. Daniels declined. California will send 30 delegates with 26 votes bound to Smith. Reed’s second place signals McAdoo opposition weakness. McAdoo previously backed Walsh.

McAdoo Observed as Delegate Candidacy Debate in Hoover Era
Reported remarks say McAdoo might attend the Houston convention as an observer not a delegate. State leaders guess he was labeled a national Democratic leader while parties focus on a bate deficit legacy. Kansas City delegates, unopposed, sought endorsement for Herbert Hoover from Republicans, receiving strong backing for a Hoover presidency.
