A boy named Gould nearly died after a fall from a vehicle or ride near Manas XS. He completed a somersault or broad turn onto the road, was tossed three times, and struck a telegraph pole two lengths from his home, leaving him shaken with possible injuries.
A late 19th or early 20th century advertisement urges women to contact Mrs Lydia Pinkham in Lynn Massachusetts for private health advice. It promises confidentiality and states many women have found relief from various conditions using Lydia Pinkham's Vegetable Compound. Letters are received opened and answered by women.
The comptroller of the currency closed the Delmont National Bank at Delmont Westmoreland County, led by James McQuaide of Pittsburgh as president, while the state attorney general asked Dauphin County court to appoint a receiver for the insolvent Monongahela Valley Bank of Duquesne. The Delmont bank has $25,001 capital and about $75,090 in deposits. the Monongahela Valley Bank had $50,000 capital. McQuaide reportedly left the city for Chicago.
In Scranton on May 3 the United Mine Workers held a district convention that may declare a nationwide strike. President Mitchell met with the joint state committee, the report was approved, and delegates prepared to decide the course without further guidance from him. Dr. Charles Neill arrived amid speculation about Roosevelt and the miners dispute. Non union men were captured at Sunnyside washery, six Italians detained after a skirmish at the colliery stockade.

Authorities claim a strong case against Shank.
Frank H. Caven, former Philadelphia council member, was acquitted by a jury on charges of violating his oath of office by having a financial interest in land contracts for the city’s filtration system during his term. He had been arrested last summer amid the political upheaval related to the lease dispute.
Eastern bankers and local officials project a broad rebuilding effort in San Francisco with an estimated 27 million dollars to be invested in Geary Street, Sea Wall, Pacific States restoration, and other projects. Officials say much will come from Eastern and foreign capital, with repairs to unburned and burned areas advancing, while architects and contractors assess needs for the postquake era.
