County urges growth toward MontColine plan review favors Urbana industrial area
Frederick County commissioners completed a review of Urbana and Brunswick sections of the 1983 Comprehensive Plan on Tuesday. They urged filling residential growth along the Montgomery County border and developing industrial land near I-270 and Md 355. The Urbana plan shows about 3,000 residential acres, with 800 to 1,000 developed, and proposes industrial corridors east of I-270 near the county line. Commissioner Grossnickle warned against “wall to wall houses” that could bypass towns and services, while others supported designating additional industrial land between I-270 and Md 355 north of Parks Mill Road. The board split on that issue, favoring Grossnickle’s agricultural preservation view to maintain lower prices. The article notes the plan continues on Page A.
