Decorator Show House Opens in Lancaster for Hospital Benefit

The 1978 Decorator Show House, sponsored by the Lancaster Auxiliary of the United Auxiliaries of Lancaster General Hospital, runs April 24 to May 14 at 235 East Orange Street in Lancaster's Historic District. Proceeds support Projects for Excellence in Health Care. The 19th Century Town House, acquired by Mrs. John L. Polcyn, features 18 redecorated areas with a boutique and varied themes. Open Sundays and Mondays 12 noon to 6 pm, Tue-Sat 10 am to 5 pm, with group admission for 20 or more at $3 at the door.

Garden club plans home garden flower show

The Garden Club of Frederick met at Mrs. Byron White's home on April 14 to discuss landscape plans for Baker Park and new planting around the Pink House. Highlights included a three-location Home and Garden Flower Show on May 12, plus upcoming events such as a District V Environmental Retreat on September 26-27 at Woodbine Sanctuary and a Decorator Showcase House in May.

Baltimore Symphony to Get New Concert Hall in Maryland

The Maryland General Assembly approved a permanent home for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, a project discussed since 1974. Designed by Pietro Belluschi with Jung Brannen Associates, the hall would seat 2,400. Joseph Meyerhoff pledged land and $5 million toward construction as part of a $15 million total, with fundraising needed to cover operating costs and deficits.

Montgomery General Hospital Women’s Board plans July picnic

At a spring meeting Montgomery General Hospital Olney announced the fifth annual Hospital Picnic and Bazaar theme Westward Ho to be held on the last Tuesday of July the 25th. A Jewelry Coffee on May 10 invites jewelry cash boutique and bric-a-brac donations, with book donations via the Howard County Auxiliary call 7744449 9533905 or 7250212. Cake Booth chairs are Mrs Melvin Crawford and Mrs Raymond Tate. Each of the 150 Women’s Board members is asked to donate at least three items. Proceeds go to support the hospital which pledges 100000 annually and collaborates on a new hall project funded by state and private gifts including Meyerhoff.

Carroll County Historical Society Acquires Notable Artifacts

The Carroll County Historical Society announces new acquisitions including a Lecternette public address system for the Roop-Roger Reunion, two Federal period woodworks circa 1880s donated by Dennis Blizzard, a father’s clock once owned by Joseph W. Allender and his ancestors likely built around 1000 by George Long of Hanover, and a County history volume.
