Three Killed In Auto Crash On U S 40 East
Three people die in a Sunday evening collision on U S 40 near Mt. Airy. Donald Hamilton 21 James Hamilton Jr 14 both of near Mt. Airy and Jesse Wyatt 84 of Sparta, N C, are pronounced dead by Dr B O Thomas Sr. Injured are Vaughn Wyatt 36 and Sanford Wyatt 59 of Sparta. The crash occurred about 7 10 p m when Donald Hamilton driving west collided with Vaughn Wyatt who pulled onto the highway from Bill Moxley Road. Sanford is treated and released, Vaughn remains for observation in satisfactory condition. Hamilton's 1961 sedan and Wyatt's 1960 car demolished. Sgt Clyde B Tucker and Tpr W Dennis Drumm assisted. Thieves Take Copper From Building Site
Thieves used a large truck to haul away copper and wiring from the Baltimore Brick Company at Rocky Ridge during the night. Cpl. William F. Davis noted no loss estimate yet. Jefferson Store Blast Kills Knoxville Man In Traffic Jam
A Jefferson sporting goods store exploded Saturday causing 35000 dollars in damage. A Knoxville man, Francis Carey, 48, a B&O brakeman, died after being caught in a lengthy traffic tie up. Firefighters fought the blaze with 200 plus personnel and 14 units. two were injured by a falling beam. Investigators traced the blast to a defective gas furnace when a vending unit activated gas release and an ensuing explosion. Ralph G. Brown owned the store. he was uninjured. Services for Carey will be held Tuesday at the Church of God in Brunswick, with burial in Brownsville Heights Cemetery.

U S Pilot Outruns Communists in North Viet Nam
A U S Air Force pilot, Capt. James M. Ingalls of Palo Alto California, parachuted after his AVE Skyraider was shot down during a forward air control mission in the mountains of North Viet Nam. He evaded pursuers overnight and was rescued at dawn after three helicopter attempts were repelled by ground fire. He is the 48th pilot rescued by the U S Air Force Aerospace Rescue Recovery Group since January 1. The group rescued 120 pilots in the last three months of 1965.
