State program to promote health for mothers and children
Dr Barrett outlined a welfare service plan to provide skilled medical and nursing care for women and children, with health education campaigns encouraging regular care through physicians or health authorities. He cited infant mortality, smallpox, diphtheria, and maternal mortality, noting public health activities and maternal child programs as part of the strategy. Governor Nice proclaimed May 1 to mark three health observances for Child Health, Mother's Day, and Better Parenthood Week, supporting statewide year round activities.
