In Germantown an unidentified man and woman died when their 1991 Chevrolet pickup struck a tree on River Road near Rileys Lock around 9 30 p m and exploded into flames. Police say identities await dental records and next of kin notification. The collision reconstruction section continues the probe.
A 16 year old girl testified that a teacher touched her and described a pattern of alleged assault. The Montgomery County Circuit Court heard charges including second degree assault and two counts of fourth degree sexual assault as the investigation opened. The witness said she felt fear yet believed she had a good relationship with the teacher.
A Julius West Middle School student was sexually assaulted in a wooded area near Dowgate Court and Twinbrook Parkway at about 7 am on Monday. The assailant, described as a white man in his 20s, grabbed her throat and forced her to a nearby area. she was not injured and walked to her bus stop afterward. Police urge anyone with information to call 240-773-5400 or 1-800-673-2777.
Two men faced bail in separate incidents. One man, charged with assault, was set at 5000 dollars with 10 percent allowed for release. In a separate case a stabbing attempt at John Hanson Apartments was captured on video. A suspect, Richards, 33, faced first and second degree assault charges with bail reduced from 15000 to 5000.
The outlook shows a cloudy to sunny pattern with daily lows in the 40s to 50s and highs mainly in the 60s to 70s. Maryland beaches experience clear nights with mid 50s lows. Extended period calls for mostly clear conditions, low to mid 50s, and weekend highs near 60s. breezy Saturday.
A Thurmont area house burned quickly, with firefighters from Thurmont Rocky Ridge Lewistown and Grace responding. Officials from Frederick County Central Alarm reported a fast-moving blaze that left the home a total loss within about 20 minutes after arrival.
A 16 year old girl and a 40 year old man were hospitalized after a Jeep Cherokee driven by Saam Parsa struck near Bondy Lane in Darnestown and another vehicle stopped behind a truck. The girl was trapped under the truck and taken to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.
