The Special Court of Appeals held involuntarily committed patients may be forced to take medication only if they pose a danger within the facility, reversing a Circuit Court order for David Martin of Baltimore. The ruling could affect more than 300 patients on forced medication orders as of 1994, while officials warn it may slow treatment and lengthen hospital stays.
