Volunteers Clean Ten Tons Along Canal and River

About 70 area volunteers organized by George Lewis and Lana Brust hauled roughly 10 tons of trash from the C&O Canal towpath and Potomac River, collecting refrigerators tires and five 200 pound metal grease boxes. They cited dump fee increases as a motive and park officials say gates have been added to deter future dumping.

Warm spell continues into week with highs in 70s and 80s

Forecasters from the National Weather Service predict a warm stretch as a high pressure area off the Atlantic Coast drifts warm air from the southwest. Temperatures rose from the 50s to the mid 70s last week, with today expected in the lower 80s and overnight in the upper 50s to low 60s. A pair of weak cold fronts may lower highs into the 70s midweek, but no major cold snap is anticipated beyond December.

Brunswick Woman Charged With Sex Offenses Against Teen

A 32-year-old Brunswick woman, Dollie Marie Dowling of 208 Wintergreen Lane, was arrested Friday after police say she had sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old boy, a family friend. She faces three counts of third degree sex offense, a felony, with potential penalties up to 10 years per count. Dowling was released on personal recognizance under a no-contact stipulation with the boy. The alleged encounters reportedly occurred in the early hours of March 18, 19, and 23, with the last incident occurring when the husband returned home shortly after.

Woman killed in head-on crash in Brunswick md

An elderly Brunswick woman, Anna Lucile Myers, 73, died in a two car head-on collision on Maryland Route 17. Scott Eugene Hoffman, 17, of Brunswick, driving a 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier, crossed the centerline and struck Myers in her 1987 Chrysler Fifth Avenue. Hoffman was flown to Baltimore’s shock trauma center. Myers died at the scene.
