Monument Bill Aims to Honor General Smallwood in Maryland
Senator Gorman introduced a bill to appropriate 40000 dollars for a Washington Baltimore monument under the Maryland Society of the Sons of the American Revolution to purchase a portrait of General William Smallwood. The effort traces back five years and aims to pass this session, with support from national societies and Horace Porter. General Smallwood, born 1732 in Charles County, led Maryland troops at Long Island White Plains and Fort Washington, later became brigadier general and major general, and served as governor of Maryland in 1788 before dying in 1792 at the Yard in Prince George’s County.

Remarkable Cure Claim for Cough Remedy Advertised
A fragmentary testimonial proclaims a cough remedy cured a severe cough in 24 hours. It promotes various tonics and cures for rheumatism neuralgia and sprains, with ad copy naming editors, drugstores, and names like Dowse Pearre and Searre. The text reads as a chaotic collage of endorsements and patent medicine claims.
