Carcass taunts water in Braddock Heights tank

Frederick County water officials found a decomposing animal body in the Braddock Water Co storage tank during a system inspection ordered after a court move to take over the troubled utility. Residents, commissioners clash over townhouse plan

Walkersville residents and some planning and zoning commissioners opposed a 36 townhouse proposal and a day care center on six acres between Md. 194 and Frederick Road. The plan by C. G and R Partnership would expand a business park south of Nicodemus Road, with townhouses already allowed under B-0 zoning. Concerns arose that townhouses were not properly discussed.

Sheriff Space Talks Move to Courthouse in Frederick County

The Frederick County Sheriff's Office patrol division seeks the Meeting House on Grove Road but hinge on a county city agreement over space at the courthouse. County commissioners met in a closed session to discuss moving the patrol bureau as lease talks stall over vacated space from the Frederick City Police. Mayor Jim Grimes proposed leasing the courthouse area to the county for about 1.5 million dollars including renovations and moving expenses, with county officials estimating 418 thousand dollars to renovate and relocate sheriff offices and court security.

Old public records recovered at Mount St Marys College

Archivist Barbara D. Miles uncovered 1,500 18th and 19th century public records from Frederick and Washington counties at Mount St. Mary’s College. The documents, found in a cardboard box, include county court, appraisement, deeds of sale and election records. They will be returned to the state. Miles and assistant Toni Wetzel are cataloging and preserving the fragile papers.
