Myersville annexation may violate state law

Hood College names Capital U. provost as 10th president

An Ohio university official was chosen as Hood College’s 10th president, effective July 1. Ronald J. Volpe, Capital University provost and VP for academic affairs, will lead Hood after former president Shirley Peterson’s April resignation and temporary president Robert Funk’s interim tenure. Volpe, 35, lives in Worthington with his wife Landa and daughter Stephanie. He praises Hood as a premier liberal arts college with a value-centered education and plans to boost enrollment by more aggressive outreach and on-campus visits to attract prospective students from Frederick and beyond. Hood serves about 661 undergraduates and 47 graduates.

County building excise tax measure still alive

ANNAPOLIS The Ways and Means Committee cleared a Frederick County building excise tax bill that would let county commissioners impose a tax to match state funds for highway projects. The measure, after missing a key deadline, must go to the Senate Rules Committee before final passage.
