Denied: Frederick man fails to shorten eight year term

A three judge sentence review panel in Frederick rejected reducing George Allen Jones 44s eight year term for attempting to murder Frank Leon Hackey Sr 42 recounting that while they might have increased the sentence they left it unchanged. Jones was convicted of firing at Hackey on North Market Street wounding him and claimed innocence while alleging a frame by Hackey and his wife.

Salvadorans urged to ignore leftist election threats

Military leaders in El Salvador urged citizens to vote despite threats from leftist guerrillas. Defense Minister Gen Garcia and aides said the armed forces would respect the election results. The U.N.-backed junta alleged communist intimidation while left parties boycotted, calling the poll unfair amid a two month civil war ongoing.
