Mahoney backs Route 40 four lane plan in Md county race
Gubernatorial candidate George P. Mahoney urged expanding U.S. Route 40 to a four lane highway from Frederick to Hagerstown instead of building a new Interstate 70 route. He spoke at his South Court Street headquarters and at Frederick Shopping Center to crowds of around 2,000. He also opposed a high dam at River Bend on the Potomac River, calling for proof of its value before support. Delegate Sickles defended his record on public accommodations and reapportionment during the stop. Lee Raps Brewster criticized his rival for U.S. Senate, while Marshall Levin joined the ticket for State Comptroller and Samuel W. Barrick hosted events. Greece marked its first independence anniversary from the Ottoman Empire.

Cancer Study Underway On Bacterial Polysaccharides
Washington A mix of sugar like materials produced by bacteria is studied for cancer use. Polysaccharides attack tumors but endotoxicity blocks clinical use. Dr Stephen I Oroszlan reports potential to separate tumor damage from side effects using electrophoresis and ultra centrufugation. Further work aims to identify responsible chemical features and address toxicity.

Endotoxic polysaccharides show tumor damage but unclear ties
Dr. Oroszlan notes endotoxic polysaccharides cause tumor damage and fever, with many activities yet unproven. Separation yielded one fraction four times more tumor-damaging, about a quarter of material, as researchers plan to study other properties and isolate the active component. McNamara says Western sales to the Soviets do not strengthen their military potential. Douglas Corrigan is remembered for his 1938 wrong way flight to Ireland during Senate hearings.
