Williams Seeks Immediate CCC Investigation in Senate
Senator Williams charges the Commodity Credit Corporation books are 30 million dollars out of balance and urges a Senate records review. Democratic Leader Lucas blocks the bid as a smear, with Vice President Barkley noting the request will go over for later action. The CCC, a 5 billion dollar agency, provides price-support loans and has been used to purchase farm products in wartime and postwar periods. The GAO reportedly cannot balance the books for fiscal years ending 1943 1944 and 1945, with a gap of about 350 million dollars.
