Thieves struck the Coca Cola plant on East Street forcing a rear door and attempting to open the safe with a wedge. The safe held and only about 1.50 was taken from the cash register, no identities or clues found, while a $500 reward is offered in related shop robberies.
Hood College students name Holy Holy Holy as the top hymn in a vesper poll. The eleven follow ups include Love Divine Jesus Call Us Oer The Tremult In The Cross Of Christ and others. Abide With Me and Day Is Dying In The West appear outside the top twelve, while Nearer My God To Thee and Lead Kindly Light do not make the list.
Listings show transfers of real estate from multiple widowers and couples to new owners with nominal sums and county or city designations, plus several marriage licenses from various towns. Mrs Laura Yerkes Lewis, wife of R Rush Lewis, died at her home south of Frederick this morning at 7 of valvular heart disease after weeks of illness. Survived by husband, one son Ransom and daughter Miss Marie Lewis, plus two sisters and a brother in Philadelphia. Active in Calvary Methodist Episcopal Church work and founder of the Elizabeth Lewis school in China. Funeral Friday at 2 pm at her home, Mt Olivet Cemetery. C E Cline, funeral director.
Attorney General Daugherty and Senator Lodge met with President Coolidge in Washington as White House aides said the talks were separate. Daugherty described his discussions as about routine matters, while Lodge discussed issues as Republican leader.
Two Frederick county measures passed in Tuesday's House session authorize a $10,000 water bond for Middletown and a $20,900 street bond for Brunswick. Also approved were Montgomery county bills requiring the B&O Railroad to lower tracks at crossings and authorizing a grade crossing bond issue in the Thirteenth District.
Charles C. Waters executor and John W Null sell the late Mrs Edmonion Trapnells estate in Point of Rocks. Frederick J Stunkle buys the house and lot for 2410, Elmer C Baker the Commerce street lot for 1235, Elmer C Taker the Clay street lot for 485, Robert L Orrison purchases the Clay street house and lot for 1100. Personal property will be sold Saturday.
The Flood Culles journalism class toured the News-Dost plant on a busy afternoon. They watched printing, proofreading, steadied by Miss 8. K Tull, and observed processes from compose to the press as an edition rolled off the line ready for delivery.
Frances Gettinde Lemmon three years old 14 days fatally scalded Monday when she toppled into hot water at home in Taneytown. She died six hours later at Annie M Warner Hospital Gettysburg. Survived by parents five sisters three brothers and grandparents. Funeral Wednesday at 2 PM at the Lemmon home with interment in Lutheran Cemetery Taneytown.
Miss Vice VW King obtains an absolute divorce from James I King and custody of their minor son Stanley King. The parties reside in Frederichy.
Roxie Stinson, ex wife of Jesse W. Smith ally, testifies before the Daugherty committee about a 1922 air deal she says yielded 33 million dollars to five men tied to Sinclair Interests which leased Teapot Dome. She says Smith and Daugherty were upset they were not included. She also disclaims any belief that Smith was murdered, though she holds Daugherty morally responsible for his suicide.
A county commissioner denies a rumor that Ballenger Creek road would be taken over by the State on June 16. Residents believed the three mile gravel road might be transferred, but officials say there is no current plan to hand it to the state.
In South Dakota the Republican presidential preference race shows President Coolidge leading Senator Hiram Johnson by about 2000 votes as 634 of roughly 1,825 precincts report. Coolidge tallies 24,867 to Johnson 22,788.
Baltimore March 26 The trial of Harry A Hoppy Grove of Frederick for liquor conspiracy at the Outerbridge Hargey distillery Burkitsville was adjourned to tomorrow due to illness of juror King David Lodge Meets No 5070 OF. The meeting of King David Lodge featured Horace H C Abdaugh as noble grand and a report on a bazaar. A delegation from Adamstown Lodge participated as the degree of Friendship was conferred.
Paris reports the Poincare ministry collapsed after an adverse vote on the government pension bill. Premier Poincare handed in the cabinet’s resignations to President Millerand who accepted them and announced he would irrevocably relinquish power. The ministry had governed since January 1922.
Baltimore March 26 Miss Vivian Simpson of Takoma Park Maryland was granted a writ of mandamus to compel the University of Maryland to register her as a student. Another student Virginia Flanagan has a similar case pending. The judge found no wrong in the process.

In Rome on March 26 Cardinal Hayes of New York and Cardinal Mundelein of Chicago were elevated to the cardinalate in a consistory attended by prelates, laity, and a large American delegation. Cardinal Mundelein thanked the pope and the American church for the honor.
New York police press on with 26 detectives on the case of Mrs. Maud Bauer a 36 year old woman murdered on a rural road. An armed youth offered help with a stuck car and lured her into a ride toward a nearby house to fetch a rope. Half an hour later the suspect sped past Mrs Bauer’s mother and she found her daughter dead.
Washington reports a new estimate on the cost of the soldier bonus bill amounting to 3.3 billion dollars. The forecast was delivered to the Senate Finance Committee by Herbert Hess, actuary for the American Legion, on March 204A.
