Beck urges phaseout of state day care centers in favor of private care
Del. Ray Beck argues Maryland should gradually close state run day care centers where private providers are cheaper. He notes that private care costs $8.40 per child daily, rising to $8.80 later, yet many private providers will not accept the state rate, trapping reliance on state centers. The plan aims to redirect funds to private or local care while preserving access during transition.
