Accident Kills Two Relatives in Annapolis Area
A fatal automobile crash near Annapolis Sunday night killed Mrs. Samuel Smith of Washington DC and her niece Eleanor Smith, both instantaneously. Mrs. Smith’s son William C Smith and daughter-in-law were seriously injured and transported to Emergency Hospital, Annapolis. Relatives in Frederick report Mrs. Smith has distant ties to the county.

Frederick CCC quota set at 145 for county relief plan
Frederick County Welfare Board announced a Civilian Conservation Corps quota of 145 men to be enrolled between April 5 and 15 with potential reenrollment for those recently discharged from a CCC camp. Eligible unmarried men ages 18 to 25 will be sent to camps, including a group likely to the Fishing Creek area, as relief funds remain tight and distributions to those on direct relief are delayed.

Two fined $2 for excessive speeds on National highway

The Bureau of Home Economics faced a high pressure lobby led by H T Corson of flour mills aimed at its pamphlet Diets at Four Levels of Nutritive Content and Cost. Telegrams from millers bakers chambers of commerce and farmers pressed Congress as a fight raged over the department budget. Chairman Marvin Jones capitulated while Jim Buchanan defended nutritionists and consumers and a rider to bar salary for advocating reduced consumption was shaped to allow balanced diets. The lobby pressure continued behind closed doors on the appropriations committee.

Ill Man Ends Life in Gaithersburg After Despondency
David R Hershey a 56 year old Gaithersburg resident employed by the Maryland park and planning commission killed himself with a 38 caliber pistol just after 11 am Sunday while he was ill and his wife had died about a year earlier. He left his bed when a nurse stepped away and died instantly from a self inflicted gunshot wound. coroner’s exam unnecessary per police. He is survived by five sons and five daughters. Pennington Lewis who had severe injuries in a prior automobile accident showed improvement and returned home from Priderick City Hospital.
