Elkton Maryland March 26 A bedridden elderly man Samuel Chatham predicted by the Jost faith would be robbed of his savings. Burglars entered his lonely Worcester County hut while he slept and stole coins and currency estimated at 2109 dollars mostly $20 gold pieces. Chatham had kept his wealth at home despite advice to bank it. He earned his money in timber and loaned funds, hoarding his savings in a trunk. The trunk was later found abandoned in a nearby thicket.
Edward Payson Weaton, an elderly walker from Los Angeles toward New York, struggles as heat and age slow him. Witnesses say his pace drops to around three miles per hour and his condition worsens daily, with bruises and fatigue impeding progress toward Chicago. He spent the night in Courtney and crossed the Missouri River at Sites, continuing with dogged resolve aided by his loyal dog.
Oklahoma Senator Owen urged creating a cabinet level Department of Public Health to coordinate nine health agencies. He argued the plan would save lives and reduce sickness, claiming potential annual savings of $3,000,000,000 and protection for 3,000,000 people. He criticized current bureaus as uncoordinated and hampered by commercial interests.
