Maryland State Police reported a coyote hit by a vehicle on US 40 just west of 70. The injured animal had broken legs and severe trauma and was shot by a trooper to relieve suffering after rescue attempts.
Defendant Lloyd Eugene Biggus 40 asked for a trial outside Frederick County but was denied. He faces a five day Circuit Court trial starting July 12 for sexually assaulting a 9-year-old girl while HIV-positive. Biggus, former AIDS committee president, has 11 months in jail and prior sex offenses.
Frederick County District Court convicted Melissa D. Degrange and Harry Ridgely on two counts each of animal cruelty. Judge C. J. Siekas gave 10 day suspended jail terms, two years supervised probation, and 200 hours of community service for each, with a $1,000 fine—$200 payable. The charges followed a September animal control probe at their Ballenger Creek Pike home, where Coco the dead dog and Bouncer the malnourished dog were found in a small kennel. Bouncer was later adopted.

A Virginia man, Charles Adams HL, 31, of Stephens City, was arrested Monday about 11 am after allegedly robbing the Blue Ridge Bank in Berkeley County of about $19,000. Police say he escaped with cash in a duffel bag and fled in a car tracked by a nearby construction crew and found by Martinsburg police at a hotel. He is held on a $56,000 bond at Eastern Regional Jail.
Maryland State Police investigate a Tuesday break in at a home in the 8000 block of Rocky Ridge Road. About $4,600 worth of jewelry was taken between 10 30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Trooper First Class Bill Long is handling the case.
