In Philippi West Virginia March officials report the Century mine disaster has 25 dead and 29 or more injured. Company officials say 22 bodies have been recovered and one worker remains missing believed buried under debris. A special train with coffins has arrived as crowds gather in horror and some workers insist 20 to 40 men may still be in the mine.
In West Philadelphia Mrs. Harry B. Moore and her seven year old daughter Thelma were found dead in bed from gas asphyxiation. Neighbors say the couple appeared stable. no motive is clear as the husband works at sea. A hose lay across the bed. money was left in the house.
