Mount students win NEH Younger Scholars grants for windmill study
Douglass Mount students Christopher Gillis of Frederick and Amy Connelly of Reisterstown earned $2,200 Younger Scholars grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities for independent summer projects. Gillis will study The Historical Significance of Windmill and Water Mill Technology in Late and Feudal France, while Connelly will explore The Two Worlds of Frederick Douglass. Connelly will use state archives and major libraries to examine newspapers and tax records, with the grant funding summer research. Proposals were judged on quality and feasibility, with 1992 projects to be chosen in July for the following summer. Applications for 1992 are due November 1, and future topics may center on Columbus’ 500th voyage. Contact Leon Bramson at NEH for details.
